Who's Doing the Doing?
We live in a world that celebrates action. The hustle, the grind, the doing. But how often do we stop to ask ourselves: Who's doing the doing?
We are human beings, not human doings or human havings. Yet, when life doesn’t go as planned or we want to achieve more, the first instinct is often to ask, “What can I do differently?”
It’s a valid question, but it’s incomplete. Transformational change isn’t just about doing more or doing differently; it’s about examining the who behind the doing. This requires a deeper inquiry into the being that drives the actions.
To truly transform your life, you have to pause and reflect. You need to go within and examine the forces shaping your decisions and behaviors:
Beliefs: What assumptions about yourself and the world are influencing your choices?
Language: Are you speaking in a way that limits you or opens new possibilities? Especially pay attention to your inner voice!
Emotions: Are you acting out of fear, frustration, or inspiration? Emotions carry messages, listen.
Body: How is your physical state influencing your mental and emotional clarity?
This reflective process leads to insights you couldn’t have seen before. It’s not about pushing harder or trying to will your way forward. Instead, it’s about uncovering new truths about yourself—truths that naturally guide you to actions that were invisible just moments ago.
When you shift your focus from what to who, you’ll find that the doing becomes almost effortless. You’ll see opportunities and pathways that didn’t exist in your previous state of being. This is the power of transformation.
Imagine struggling with something you really want to accomplish. Struggle as you may, you’re not getting your desired results. You try new techniques, get new tools or software, or you name it, yet nothing changes. What if, instead, you paused to reflect on who is showing up that is trying to get the results you say you want? Are you being genuinely curious and open or are you stuck in the same core beliefs and habits… and expecting new results? Are you fully present, or are you rushing to the next task?
When you pause, reflect, and connect with your intuition and imagination, new actions—natural, authentic, and effective—emerge. Actions that but a moment ago you simply could not see to take.
As you move through your day, pause to reflect: Who is the you that’s showing up? Is your being aligned with your goals, or are you stuck in a cycle of aimless doing?
Transformation begins within. And when you transform your being, the doing will naturally follow.
If you’re ready to uncover the who behind what you're doing, you’re ready for more than just incremental improvement. You’re ready for transformation. Transformation is a journey of evolving. Evolving is a journey to self-mastery.
Namaste,
Jim
